Shante

Shante represents Neighborhood House as the youth programs manager and has been receptive and supportive of youth initiatives throughout the photo-voice project.  In addition one of the valuable activities she facilitates is a group for the young ladies who attend the center.  This allows for openly sharing knowledge from other community members as well as driving out the potential of young ladies to receive it in such a way where they gain confidence, resources, and potentially give back through their lessons.

Claire

Claire is originally from Alabama, but has lived

in Milwaukee for nearly 6 years. She supports

the 27th Street WDFC Youth Council because she

thinks everyone should be entitled to a clean,

safe neighborhood. Youth shouldn’t be

bombarded with alcohol advertising when they

reach for a juice or forced to look at drug and

cigarette litter when they walk to school. When

she’s not working for the Coalition, she spends

time with her three dogs and enjoys spending

time by Lake Michigan.

Nao Bee a.k.a. Tou Bee (2B)

I represent HAFA and my favorite part of being a youth leader, is being bossy.  I am 45 years old, but feel as if I am 18.  I don’t feel 45.  My goal is to create a safe environment for kids and I haven’t had breakfast today yet.  I am a really big deal because I am a leader.  Don’t stereotype me, because I think I’m fat and I choose not to stereotype others by calling them names or judging them before I get to know them.  Ask me again how old I am and I answer 45 years old.  My cool urban phrase is “What’s up?” simply meaning what is up?
